Stations are minor entities with which the players can trade. They are like Cities or Outposts in that they occupy one hex, but they do not have any units nor do they claim any territory by culture. Normal rules for City placement apply, i.e. you cannot establish an Outpost within three hexes of a Station.
Stations may land to the planet at any time. They are looking to trade with the players, and if nobody comes forward within a given period of time, they pack their belongings and move to a new location on the planet. Only one city per each civilization can trade with a given Station simultaneously.
When you trade with a Station, the Station is promoted to the next Tier. Then when your trade route expires and you establish a new one, you get better deals the higher the Tier of the Station. The stations have three Tiers, shown in the table below.
