Steam is a digital content distribution platform and gaming community developed and run by Valve Corporation.
Civilization V, Beyond Earth and Starships require the player to register to Steam. Steam keeps the games updated and offers numerous achievements for Civilization players to boast with. Steam also allows companies to sell extra content for their games. There is also a virtual trading cards system in place for collector-minded users.
