The Subneural Ad is a unit in Civilization: Call to Power.
Summary[]
The Subneural Ad offers a new twist on terror. Using visual and aural transmissions, the Subneural Ad advertises to unsuspecting consumers with an uncontrollable lust for non-existent products, leading to great unhappiness. Subneural Ads also replace the primitive Corporate Branch with a Diamond Age method of franchising. The Subneural Ad is a stealth unit, which allows it to hide from regular armies.
Great Library entry[]
Under the aegis of multinational corporations, twentieth century advertisers attempted with only partial success to use ads to pass subconscious messages to unwitting consumers. In the 21st century breakthroughs in neural biology and neural networks created the Subneural Ad which used light patterns and sound cues to induce intense loathing or love in viewers. Quickly outlawed by angry consumers, the Subneural Ad continued as a military weapon.
