Declare War Probability on Settler (1) difficulty[]

This is certainly not 0%. I played the Wonders of the Ancient World scenario recently on Settler difficulty, and was surprised when one of the AI players declared war on me. -- Kazerniel (talk) 17:34, March 20, 2017 (UTC)

This information comes directly from the game's XML files, but it applies only to standard single- and multiplayer games. Scenarios have their own special rules. -Mythril Wyrm (talk) 19:38, March 20, 2017 (UTC)

"Since the human brain has far greater information processing and problem-solving capabilities than even the most advanced AI currently in existence"[]

That's.. simply not true. Didn't want to remove it, because maybe that's not how things are done around here, but it's either very poorly phrased, or else just plain false.

The brain has much better pattern recognition capabilities, sure - but this is just one type of information-processing. Computers are much, much better at many others. (So Google's servers need you fill out their Captchas, but you still need Google's servers to do your web-searching..)

Similarly, the brain is better merely at abstract problem-solving specifically, not problem-solving in general. For many problems characterised by complexity, for example, or by various heuristric limitations, computers vastly outperform humans.

The challenge with Civ AI isn't in making it smart enough. The challenge comes in the trade-off between making it efficient (an AI Civ 'turn' is supposed to take a fraction of a second, even on a low-powered laptop..), and making it interesting (an AI civ 'personality' that just relenlessly optimised every variable wouldn't feel like it had much personality at all..)

So, if you wanted to reword that without removing it entirely, how would you do it? Do you think it would be more accurate to say "Since the human brain can more easily adapt and change its strategy than the game's AI," or something similar? -Mythril Wyrm (talk) 19:24, March 18, 2018 (UTC)
