Civilization Wiki

I've moved the table of Policy Cards from the Civics article here. It's better than the current list we have, however it's incomplete. Feel free to update it as necessary, because right now I don't have the time. Soltan Gris 12:46, November 4, 2016 (UTC)

Guys, a question: In the fields "Obsoletes" and "Obsoleted by" there is often the text None (because there are no Policies to put there). Do you think we should leave it like that, or just leave the cell empty? Soltan Gris 23:50, November 5, 2016 (UTC)

Or maybe put just a dash there? —ZeroOne (talk) 23:58, November 5, 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure what sort of dash you're thinking of.... a single one just looks like a smudge in one end of the cell (not to mention the coding bother having to put the nowiki tag for each one). I'll just leave it blank for now, and maybe someone will think of something later. Soltan Gris 01:11, November 7, 2016 (UTC)

Redirects[]

Is there a reason most of the "Policy" / "Policy card" redirects point to List of policy cards in Civ6 instead of the main article? I would think cursory searches should prioritize the mechanic itself, rather than dumping the user on a reference list with almost no context.

It's an unspoken convention we decided to follow about a year ago: if there are articles entitled "<entity> (CivX)" and "List of <entities> in CivX" for the same game, all singular pages redirect to the former article and all plural pages redirect to the latter article. The reasoning is that a user who types a plural pagename will be more interested in looking at a list of entities from a specific game whereas a user who types a singular pagename will be more interested in a general overview.
If there are redirect pages that don't follow this convention, please change their destinations accordingly or let me know so I can take care of it. -Mythril Wyrm (talk) 00:25, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
I can see the logic, but it seems a bit presumptive of intent, and can cause discrepancies with the {{overview}} template used in general articles: Policies is disambiguating the game mechanic, but Policies (Civ6) redirects to the list. (Come to think of it, a reconfiguration of that module might be worthwhile.)

On a related note, since Policy Cards are only (currently) featured in Civ6, should Policy Card &c. redirect to Civ6 specifically, rather than the general page?

No, I don't think Policy Card and similarly-named pages should redirect to the Civ6 page (which, for the record, is not supposed to have either word capitalized). "Policy" is often used as shorthand for "policy card" in the community and the game itself, so the two terms are effectively interchangeable. They also play a similar role to social policies in Civ5, so I see nothing wrong with using policies as an umbrella term for the two. -Mythril Wyrm (talk) 01:45, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
