The Televangelist is a unit in Civilization: Call to Power.
Summary[]
The Televangelist extends the power of the Theocracy into the Modern Age. Like the Cleric, the Televangelist can convert cities, forcing them to tithe gold to the player. The Televangelist can also soothsay, spreading unhappiness, and can sell indulgences, giving happiness to enemy cities in exchange for gold. Exercising these abilities, however, is not free. Each time one is used, the Civilization is charged gold. Unlike the Cleric, the Televangelist can only be seen by other Trade units.
Great Library entry[]
Once mass media technologies like television spread throughout the world, religious institutions quickly jumped onto the airwaves. For large religions, television or radio allowed followers to participate in distant religious rites. TV and radio also opened a new way to collect donations, unmatched by any other modern tool.
