There are 21 different terrain types in Sid Meier's Colonization. The table below gives base yields; these can be increased by specialists working the terrain, roads, rivers and bonus resources.

Food on land tiles is harvested as Grain; on water tiles, as Fish. All forest tiles may be cleared by a Pioneer (using the plow action) to turn them into a treeless terrain type:

The change is permanent and any forest bonus will be deleted. As a side effect, clearance produces some lumber in the nearest colony.
