By the end of the Twelfth Century CE, Vijaya was a political and cultural hub, making the Hindu Cham polity an attractive target for the newly-crowned Khmer King Jayavarman VII. By the first decade of the 1200s, Vijaya would fall under the Mahayana Buddhist influence of the Khmer.
