Civilopedia entry[]
What does it mean to do good? Philosophers have struggled with this question for centuries. One thought experiment often invoked to explore the issue is the “trolley problem” (should one divert a train from its tracks and kill one bystander or let it continue and kill multiple people). However, the real world is more complex and requires insight to understand the effects of one's actions, the knowledge of proper virtues, and why it might be desirable to pursue those virtues. Yi is ultimately the Chinese philosophy that explores these issues of righteousness, justice, morality, and meaning.
